ControlAP 1.3 Plus Edition Release Notes

ControlAP is a software based Access Point controller.
It can also function as a standard internet connection sharing application for wired LANs.
For Online Support: http://controlap.com/help  Redistribution is not allowed without permission.

RELEASE NOTES:

Plus Features in a nutshell:  In addition to all of features found in ControlAP Standard Edition, with ControlAP Plus, you can now use SSL redirection to a third party external web authentication server or use the default credit card billing system. The default billing system is ready to use out of the box with %100 of revenue available initially and %75 after you've made back your purchase of ControlAP Plus. Alternatively you can also use the Radius protocol to authenticate with a third party Radius server (or IAS on Windows) using PAP and CHAP authentication schemes. Please refer to Online Help Documentation for more details.

Notes:
The web administrator is accessible to only the local machine's  IP address by default (you can enter an IP address or use "*" for any address). Windows may require restarting ControlAP after selecting network adapters for NAT to work. For proper crediting and custom login page using Mediatracker's Hotspot billing system you must obtain a hotspot id from mediatracker support.
The default username and password is "admin". Please change it.

Demo mode:  To test the software without hardware, simply change your browser settings to use a web proxy at localhost port 80.

Hardware Requirements and Configuration:

Two network adapters on a dedicated computer running ControlAP.  One to the internet and the other to an Access Point. Note you can connect your modem using a USB connection (if one is provided) directly your PC instead of installing a second network card.
ControlAP will automatically detect network settings and will be ready to run when launched. If necessary, settings can be changed from ControlAP's settings to match the IP addresses of the two network adapters.

The network adapter connected to the Access Point must have a static IP address assigned. This is done by changing the TCP/IP Settings for the network adapter for your particular operating system.

Example:  IP Address:  192.168.1.2
                  Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0
                  Gateway: (leave blank)
                  DNS Servers: (leave blank)

Additional Note regarding NAT:
Windows platforms: by default NAT (Network Address Translation) is disabled so only the web, email and ssh ports are open for use. You can allow more ports by either enabling NAT under Settings (which translates all ports) or by manually adding additional proxy ports to the configuration file.  NAT is supported for all platforms. To enable NAT on Windows make sure you have the Routing and Remote Access service enabled and started and make sure that ICF (Microsoft's Firewall) is off. Most software firewalls may not support NAT so to protect your PC use the TCP/UDP filters available under advanced TCP/IP properties (or use an external hardware firewall) and allow 80tcp, 53udp and 67udp.  See Online Help for additional info.
MacOSX: NAT support is forthcoming in the next update.
PDAs: currently only Linux based PDAs with iptables installed support NAT.

Support and Bug Reporting:

For best results make sure you still have internet access on the host PC itself before and after enabling or connecting the wireless adapter and before starting ControlAP.  Please see online help at http://controlap.com/help for more detailed information on all the features and options.

Known Issues:  Network Address Translation (NAT) is not enabled by default on Windows platforms.  On Windows platforms, web monitoring (and content filtering) currently does not work when NAT is enabled. NAT may not work on Windows with certain third party firewall software. For workarounds see NAT notes above. NAT support on the MacOSX will be available with a future update.
